A Metroidvania action-adventure video game
Insignia is an action video game that was developed by an independent developer named Adam C. Younis, aka Uppon Hill, for PC devices. It is a 2D side-scrolling platformer game in the style of Metroidvania games. In it, you take control of Armin, a blacksmith's son who must take his rightful place of his father's successor in his hometown of Ohrenstead. Learn your craft, meet new characters, and explore a vast world filled with dark secrets.
What is Insignia all about?
Insignia will have you take control of Armin, a blacksmith's son whose father mysteriously disappeared during an expedition years ago. Now that he has come of age, he must take over his father's craft and be the new weapon-smith in his hometown of Ohrenstead. Study and learn the craft as you slowly come to know the fate that befell Armin's father and the dark and mysterious plot that threatens the safety of the land he calls home.
This adventure game features a beautiful and vibrant pixel art style that was all hand-drawn from the ground up with frame-by-frame sprites and expansive tile-sets. As mentioned earlier, Insignia is inspired by the Metroidvania style of games. As such, you can expect fun and challenging gameplay as you explore its vast world. Collect coins to buy better gear for yourself or forge your own to help you as you face waves of enemies and tough boss fights.
Do note, however, that this is just a demo version and the game is still in active development. As such, there are still a lot of aspects that need to be fixed and improved. For one, there is no proper tutorial to help newcomers. Another is that the game's content is still rather thin and limited. The developer did say that he will be moving to the next development stage so you can expect more in future updates.
A promising Metroidvania game
All in all, Insignia has all the makings of a classic adventure game. It features gorgeous pixel art, an intriguing story, and challenging but fun gameplay. If you're a fan of Metroidvania-style games, then this is one to keep an eye on. It has the potential to become a great game and is worth checking out to see what future updates will bring to the table.
